PHOTOGRAPHY RULES AND GUIDELINES

We do not allow the Gardens of the World to be used as a backdrop for photography sessions without a permit and fee.

Photography within the Gardens generally falls into two categories. These are defined as photography that requires a permit and photography that does not require a permit. Commercial photography is not allowed. These are:

PHOTOGRAPHY THAT REQUIRES A PERMIT

Non-Commercial photography

This category of photography is by appointment only and includes professional or amateur posed photography used for special events and occasions such as engagements, couples, family groups, birthdays, quinceanaras, proms, graduation, weddings, maternity, etc. This category requires a permit application and fees which must be met before an appointment will be set.

Fees and Guidelines for Non-Commercial Photography

  • $200.00 per hour. Maximum of 6 persons per appointment which includes photographer and assistant if necessary. The maximum allotted appointment time is 1 hour. No additional family members or friends are allowed to be present to watch the photo session if they are not in the pictures.

  • Appointments require at least two weeks in advance notice. Booking dates and times are subject to availability, approved and scheduled by Gardens of the World. Appointments are available Tuesday through Friday with the first appointment starting at 10:15 and the last appointment at 3:00 pm. There are no photography appointments available on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. All dates and times are subject to availability.

  • No wardrobe changes are allowed. Everyone must arrive and leave in the same clothing.

  • To set up an appointment, please call (805) 557-1135, 9am-4pm Tuesday through Saturday to obtain a permit application. Certain restrictions apply including no videography, no use of professional props such as tripods, monopods, lighting, reflectors, professional actors, or models.

  • Submitting an application for a permit should not be construed as a binding agreement until the application is approved, signed by both parties and fees have been paid in full, and in advance.

PHOTOGRAPHY THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE A PERMIT

Personal photography
Photography for personal purposes is encouraged as a means of enhancing visitor enjoyment and extending the benefits and influences of the cultural experiences. These are:

Personal photography by Garden visitors is allowed under the following conditions:

  • Garden rules and regulations must be adhered to.

  • No interference with other Garden visitors' use and enjoyment of the park.

  • No use of professional props such as tripods, monopods, lighting, reflectors, professional actors, or models.

  • Photography takes place during the normal hours that the Gardens is open to the public.

  • No disturbance or rearrangement of any Garden facility or natural/cultural features is allowed.

These requirements are to ensure that the Gardens of the World, a privately owned garden, remains a peaceful and educational experience for all our many guests.
